Messiah The Passover Lamb The Lord's Supper is an annual memorial of Christ's death in which believers eat the bread and drink the cup- symbol of his body and blood. This Communion Service demonstrates fellowship with our Savior until He comes. It is accompanied by the washing of feet. The Bible gives four accounts of the Lord's Supper. Three are in the synoptic Gospels: (Matthew, Mark and Luke), and the fourth is Rabbi Paul's effort to assure that the church kept the tradition just as he delivered it to them.

The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke describe the giving of the Lord’s Supper. John 13 refers to the Lord’s Supper and in connection with it, he tells of Jesus washing the feet of the disciples. Jesus arose from the supper, girded himself with a towel, poured water into a basin and began to wash the feet of the disciples. Peter objected to Christ’s performing so lowly an act for him, but Jesus answered that the washing of the feet was sufficient. Jesus washed the feet of all the disciples.

In this context, the use of the word “communion” refers to the identification of our lives with that of Jesus. Baptism indicates the beginning of a new life in Christ, and the Lord’s Supper demonstrates our continued communion with Him and all of God’s family. It was in connection with the Lord’s Supper that the disciples were instructed to follow the example of Jesus in washing one another’s feet.

The Lord's Supper is the second ordinance of the church that confirms our faith in the Messiah. It follows baptism in a logical sequence. Communion is primarily symbolic and has no spiritual potency without faith in the Messiah who instituted it. Jesus instituted (interwoven) this Judeo-Christian Communion service on the occasion of the Hebrew Passover. The ancient memorial signifies Israel's deliverance by the blood of the Passover Lamb while the Lord's Supper is symbolic of the deliverance of the church by the blood of Jesus. The parallels between the two make it imperative that we celebrate the Lord's Supper on Nisan 14 of the Hebrew calendar.

This Do In Remembrance of Me: Re-Enactment & Re-Telling Seder

The breaking of the break and drinking of the vine has greater significance when it comes to understanding the beauty of the Lord's supper. Jesus celebrated the Seder with His disciples. Join us as we re- enact and retell the parts of a traditional Passover Seder and highlight those points that are especially meaningful to believers in Jesus. The significance of the Lord's Supper far outweighs any concerns over procedural matters such as service order, number of cups, and disposal of unused emblems. This sacred event was fully intended to unite the people of God and not divide.
